Pakistan's PM Sharif Set for Talks in China

(MENAFN) Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will pay a state visit to China from May 23–26, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced Wednesday, signaling a fresh push to deepen ties between the two longtime allies.

Addressing a Senate session, Dar — who also serves as deputy prime minister — confirmed he would accompany Sharif throughout the visit.

The Pakistani premier is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with Chinese leadership, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, alongside business-to-business engagements and events commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

"We would also have meetings of two very important mechanisms — one, the Pakistan-China political forum, and two, the CPEC joint consultative mechanism," Dar said, adding that a large multiparty parliamentary delegation from Pakistan would participate in several meetings in Beijing.

Beijing has yet to officially confirm the visit.

A Chinese delegation led by Cai Dafeng, which had arrived in Islamabad, was present in the Senate chamber during Dar's address.

The foreign minister praised China's steadfast support for Pakistan, saying both nations shared a "converging vision" on regional and global affairs.

"China gave massive support in eliminating outages and load-shedding in Pakistan. We will always remain grateful to China," he said.
