China, EU Pledge to Maintain Stable Ties
(MENAFN) Chinese Premier Li Qiang declared Monday that bilateral ties between China and the European Union stand at a critical juncture, balancing significant growth potential against mounting friction, urging both powers to maintain strategic alignment and reinforce mutual confidence while advancing shared objectives.
Li delivered these statements during talks with European Council President Antonio Costa alongside high-level gatherings focused on East Asian regional partnerships.
The Chinese leader emphasized Beijing's commitment to expanding joint initiatives with Brussels, stating China seeks to "make the cooperation pie bigger, promote the optimized and balanced development of China-EU trade, further open up to each other, and create new growth points for cooperation in green and digital sectors, as well as areas including scientific and technological innovation, industrial and supply chains, to achieve high-level mutual benefit and win-win outcomes."
Li further stressed that "on the basis of equality and respect," China remains prepared to "promote the resolution of issues in China-EU economic and trade cooperation through dialogue and consultation, as well as through mutual understanding and accommodation."
The premier pressed European authorities to guarantee equitable treatment for Chinese corporations conducting operations across EU territory, urging Brussels institutions to adopt constructive positions that facilitate stronger China-EU partnership development.
Costa responded by affirming the EU's intention to sustain senior-level diplomatic engagement with Beijing, expand multilayered communication channels, build confidence between the two sides, navigate contentious matters effectively and drive forward tangible collaborative projects.
The European official emphasized the bloc stands prepared to "further strengthen communication and coordination with China, uphold multilateralism and jointly cope with global challenges such as climate change."
