Seventeen people get harmed in Sydney due to gunman shooting from flat
Acting Superintendent Stephen Parry reported that the attacker used a high-caliber rifle to fire between 50 and 100 rounds, hitting both pedestrians and vehicles.
Police entered the suspect’s building two hours later, arrested the 60-year-old man, and seized his weapon. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, Parry said.
One man in his 50s was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. Sixteen others sustained injuries from shattered glass and were treated at the scene.
“It’s unprecedented for Sydney to experience something like this, with such a large number of shots fired,” New South Wales Acting Assistant Commissioner Trent King told ABC Radio on Monday.
“We’re very fortunate that we didn’t have more damage, more injuries, or indeed fatalities,” he added.
