Pakistan's Punjab Floods Claim Over 100 Lives
(MENAFN) At least 101 individuals have lost their lives in catastrophic flooding across Pakistan's Punjab province, officials reported. The disaster, now deemed the largest in the region's history, has submerged over 4,700 villages and impacted 4.57 million residents, according to Nabeel Javed, the provincial relief commissioner.
Javed confirmed that 2.51 million people, alongside more than 2.01 million livestock, have been relocated to safer zones in response to the unprecedented deluge.
Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), stated that while rescue and relief operations are ongoing, the scale of the catastrophe has overwhelmed local resources.
Since the onset of heavy monsoon rains and flash floods on June 26, the United Nations reports that the disaster has claimed 932 lives, injured 1,060 people, and left over 8,238 homes either damaged or completely destroyed.
