Nepali President Names First Three Ministers of New Interim Government
The ceremony, broadcasted live, took place at the Office of the President in the capital.
Rameshore Prasad Khanal, the former finance secretary, was sworn in as Nepal’s new Finance Minister. Kulman Ghising, the former managing director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, will oversee the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Urban Development.
Meanwhile, Om Prakash Aryal, a lawyer who previously served as legal advisor to the Kathmandu mayor, was appointed to head both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
This comes just days after Sushila Karki, a former chief justice, was named Prime Minister of the interim government on Friday evening, following KP Sharma Oli’s resignation as Prime Minister on September 9 amidst deadly protests in Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal.
A general election is scheduled for March 5, 2026.
