Qatar Gears Up for Arab-Islamic Summit in Response to Israeli Strike
Majed bin Mohammed Al-Ansari, adviser to the prime minister and spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told media that the summit would deliberate on a draft resolution related to the Israeli assault. The proposal was prepared by Arab and Islamic foreign ministers, who are set to meet on Sunday.
Ansari emphasized that the summit holds significant importance, particularly in underscoring the strong Arab and Islamic support for Qatar, highlighting the critical diplomatic role of the event.
Referring to the Israeli strike, Ansari condemned the attack as a "cowardly aggression" and a clear example of "state terrorism practiced by Israel." He specifically referenced the airstrike on a Doha residential compound housing Hamas leaders, which occurred on Tuesday. The attack left five Hamas members and a Qatari security official dead. The individuals had been in discussions about a potential new ceasefire agreement, proposed by the United States, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Since October 2023, Israel's military actions in Gaza have claimed over 64,000 lives.
Qatar, along with the United States and Egypt, has been actively involved in facilitating negotiations to bring an end to the war.
