Russia Says It Took Control of Key Village in Ukraine
(MENAFN) Russia announced on Friday that its forces had successfully seized control of a key Ukrainian settlement amid heightened military operations.
In a statement, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that units from the Vostok (East) group had captured the village of Novonikolayevka in Dnipropetrovsk, marking a significant shift in the ongoing conflict.
The ministry further reported that a combination of airstrikes, drone assaults, rockets, and artillery attacks had targeted multiple Ukrainian military sites. These strikes reportedly hit command centers, rocket-launching positions, and storage sites for long-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Russian forces also struck temporary deployment points of Ukrainian troops and foreign mercenaries in 157 distinct locations.
Responding to the offensive, Ukrainian forces launched air attacks. Over the past 24 hours, Russian air defense systems successfully intercepted three U.S.-made HIMARS rockets and downed a total of 340 fixed-wing drones, according to the Defense Ministry.
Meanwhile, Ukraine continues its extensive assault on Belgorod and surrounding areas. Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Belgorod, reported on Telegram that the city has been under intense drone bombardment for the fourth consecutive day.
"Right now there are six unmanned aerial vehicles in the air over Belgorod, two of which have already been shot down. The massive attack on Belgorod and the Belgorod district has been continuing for the fourth day," he stated.
Drone assaults on border municipalities remain a serious concern, with Gladkov describing the situation as "extremely difficult."
